Our philosophy

Agrisos was created with the objective of connecting small producers in the Santa Cruz region to the international markets, so as to not only generate revenues for our company but also for them.

With this goal in mind, we have implemented capacity building and empowerment programs that benefit to up to 3,500 people every year in our region. Moreover, 60 people are permanently or regularly employed in our offices and plant.

Willing to carry on this work and increase our reach, we are always looking to new ways to support these local communities as well as new business opportunities and partnerships.

supporting local communities

From the beginning, our work with small farmers and the local communities has been formalized in our production and commercialization strategy in accordance with our Social Corporate Responsibility.

Depending on the year, we empower between 1,500 and 3,500 people both directly and indirectly. Likewise, we strongly support women participation in the farmland, in our plant and offices.

constant support

Agrisos provides technical assistance in numerous ways:

  • We grant certified natural seeds at cost to increase land productivity, and to lower climate risks.
  • We help the producers to farm sustainably to ensure better productivity and sustainability over the years.
  • We provide regulated agrochemicals that would otherwise be unaffordable for a small producer to purchase from the big chemical groups.
  • We offer a transportation service from the farmland to our plant.

Moreover, Agrisos has implemented projects of road improvement, school renovations, and free capacity building for other products. In the period of pre-cleaning and harvest, Agrisos generates seasonal jobs for the local families.

Financing

In the same fashion, we provide solutions that lower the financial burden for the small producers:

  • By offering advance payments, the cost of which is incurred by us.
  • By securing the purchase of the crops in the producers’ favor, i.e. we agree upon a selling price when sowing; if the market price has gone up at the moment we receive the product, we pay the market price.

Women participation

Aware of the gender issues, we believe that women have a crucial impact not only in their family but also in the regulation of the production system. Proof of our commitment towards them are:

  • The farmlands are often owned by women or co-owned with their husband, which enable them to participate actively in the capacity building workshops, associations, and decision-making gatherings.
  • Agrisos employs approximately 60 women across the year for the manual grain selection stage performed in our plant. This generates an additional revenue stream for their household.

To protect the environment ...

is also our responsibility.

  1. We encourage the small producers to practice direct seeding.
  2. We promote crops that require a low use of agrochemicals.
  3. We provide agrochemicals with low levels of toxicity and residue, under the constant monitoring of our agronomists.
  4. We promote the cultivation of beans as a crop rotation, as their nutrients help the soils to regenerate faster and better.
  5. We avoid the clearing and burning of trees as well as fallows as it is harmful for the environment.
  6. We promote organic cultivation practices in our region.
